Though the Night May Be Dark

Overview

Alone and galaxies away from Earth, the future is theirs to forge or fracture. The Bifrost was never meant to be. Rejected from the official mission to Janus, an Earth-like world, untouched by human hands, these queer idealists embark on a forbidden expedition. Their charge: to build a society from the ground up. No governments. No contact with Earth. As they contend with the raw wilderness of Janus and their own baggage, they must confront the worst aspects of their nature. The crew wrestles with what it means to be human and whether utopia is just a fool's dream. Part philosophical inquiry, part spacefaring odyssey, Though the Night May Be Dark is an exploration of community, survival, and the timely question: what kind of world do we want - and what are we willing to risk to achieve it?

Author Information

Born in the magical islands of the Azores, Phoenix grew up in Delaware. They have been a lover of stories since before they could even hold a book. As a teenager, they picked up the pen for the first time and hasn't set it down since. They have struggled with abuse and mental health. Phoenix is a self-harm survivor and late diagnosed Autistic with ADHD. As a disabled and non-binary person, disabled and queer representation is important to them and often features in their writing. Though their debut novel is a science fiction, genre cannot hold them. Phoenix is devoted to telling complex narratives that critique the world, provide hope, and more often than not, offer a non-traditional slant. They are a dedicated library worker and supporter. Outside the realm of writing, Phoenix can be found at car shows driving one of their classic Mustangs, reading, diamond painting, indulging in one of their many fandoms, or tending to their chihuahua and two cats.
