Thorn and Thunder

Overview

Thorn And Thunder is an adult epic fantasy set where modern life collides with ancient myth and cosmic consequence. When a long-sealed force begins to fracture under the weight of forgotten wars, two siblings are pulled into a conflict older than history itself-one bound to the storm, the other holding the key that decides how it breaks. Blending urban fantasy with high mythic stakes, the novel explores power earned through endurance, the cost of memory, and the danger of forces that answer when humanity reaches too far. Sentient relics, fractured gods, and a reality governed by balance rather than mercy shape a world where survival is never clean and victory always demands sacrifice. Thorn And Thunder opens The Aetheris Saga, a sweeping multi-book epic of storms, sacrifice, and the thin places between worlds.

Reviews

Shae Noy January 25, 2026 I really don't know how to put into words properly how much I've enjoyed reading this book. First of all, the depiction of grief, disconnection and identity struggle is beautifully done! Jonathan truly captures the emotions of human experience so intricately it's hard not to empathise with the characters. How refreshing though, to be able to read a book that takes you on a visual and emotional journey. The imagery in this book is so well written you genuinely can picture yourself living within the story. Initially I was overwhelmed with how descriptive the writing was but as the story went on it was clear this was intentional. There is a lot happening in this story so to be able to picture it and be in the moment and emotion of each scene the writing needs to capture it. I can say, I was successfully transported into the characters world. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to see where this story goes. I'm heavily invested in the characters and their journey. If you're looking for an urban fantasy that's fresh and exciting, Thorn and Thunder is the story you need! --- Eviey January 25, 2026 This is my ARC review for Thorn and Thunder. I just finished the book a while ago, and to be honest the book is a strong and engaging start to a new fantasy series. The story is character driven, emotionally grounded, and full of tension from the very beginning, with an epic feel that makes the stakes even more powerful. The world building is atmospheric without being overwhelming, and the darker tone really adds weight to the story. By the end, it's clear this is only the beginning of a much bigger, more epic journey. I'm really enjoying it so far, and it's a great pick for fans of dark, epic, character focused fantasy.

Author Information

Jonathan Hair is an author based in Brisbane, Australia. A lifelong fan of superhero movies and stories of light battling shadow, he is just as fascinated by the moments when villains win-if only for a while. His imagination has always been vivid, spilling into dreams so cinematic he often feels like he's watching entire films while he sleeps. He never imagined he would one day write those visions down, yet Thorn and Thunder became the book that brought them to life. What began as flashes of stormlight and cosmic battles in his mind grew into a story of destiny, resilience, and the courage to rise against darkness. When he isn't writing, Jonathan enjoys reading across genres, watching films, staying active, and spending time with his partner, Aaron, and their cat, Zelda. Thorn and Thunder is his debut novel, the first step in a saga that will carry his love of wonder, heroes, and shadows into countless new worlds.
