Shae Noy January 25, 2026 I really don't know how to put into words properly how much I've enjoyed reading this book. First of all, the depiction of grief, disconnection and identity struggle is beautifully done! Jonathan truly captures the emotions of human experience so intricately it's hard not to empathise with the characters. How refreshing though, to be able to read a book that takes you on a visual and emotional journey. The imagery in this book is so well written you genuinely can picture yourself living within the story. Initially I was overwhelmed with how descriptive the writing was but as the story went on it was clear this was intentional. There is a lot happening in this story so to be able to picture it and be in the moment and emotion of each scene the writing needs to capture it. I can say, I was successfully transported into the characters world. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to see where this story goes. I'm heavily invested in the characters and their journey. I just finished the book a while ago, and to be honest the book is a strong and engaging start to a new fantasy series. The story is character driven, emotionally grounded, and full of tension from the very beginning, with an epic feel that makes the stakes even more powerful. The world building is atmospheric without being overwhelming, and the darker tone really adds weight to the story. By the end, it's clear this is only the beginning of a much bigger, more epic journey. I'm really enjoying it so far, and it's a great pick for fans of dark, epic, character focused fantasy.
