Overview

This book introduces young readers to the key aspects of Judaism and then shows how this faith is observed by Jews around the world. They will learn how Jews worship God, about the Torah and Tanakh, important symbols such as the Star of David and how Jews strive to follow the commandments in the Torah and live a good life. Readers will join worshippers at a synagogue (temple) and discover how families gather for a special meal on Friday evenings to welcome the start of Shabbat (or the Sabbath, on Saturday), the most important day of the week for Jews. The book also looks at welcoming a new baby to the faith, the coming of age celebrations of bar and bat mitzvahs, Jewish weddings and the festivals of Passover and Hanukkah.

Author Information

Ronne Randall, originally from New York, has worked in children’s publishing since 1980 and has been a freelance editor and author since 1993. She has written more than 150 children’s books, published on both sides of the Atlantic. She and her husband, who have one son, live in Nottinghamshire and are members of Nottingham Liberal Synagogue, where Ronne taught in the religion school for five years.
