Thinkers and Thinking: How They Did It, How You Can, Too A Guide to Stimulate Thinking for All Learners

Overview

The ability to think is arguably the most important skill that is part of being a good student, a good parent, a good professional, etc. But that ability seems to be becoming rarer and rarer. Thinkers and Thinking strives to stimulate more virtuosity in thinking to spur people on to bigger and better things so they can lead happy and fulfilled lives, in both their business life and personal relationships. Thinkers and Thinking directly addresses learners. After a short introduction, in which some topics in philosophy are introduced, twenty-three chapters discuss a great thinker, covering his life, time, location, impressions of education, ideas, and work. Great thinkers from around the world and throughout history are represented, beginning with Siddhartha Gautama in 563 BC to the present day. Each chapter finishes with some fun and educational exercises that allow the reader to improve a thinking skill related to what has just been read. The book is primarily geared to younger learners, from about fifth grade on, but the information contained is suitable for adults as well. In fact, many of the exercises provide an opportunity for children and their teachers or parents to interact and discover new thoughts together. Thinking and Thinkers also includes provoking portraits of some of the thinkers by Melissa Howlett.
