Overview

A biography of Fr Michael O'Flanagan, an Irish priest who also served as President of Sinn F'in. This book outlines how, in a conservative Ireland, Fr O'Flanagan consistently worked for social justice, civic honesty and political democracy. O'Flanagan believed his stance as a clergyman should neither disqualify him from taking a role in politics nor give him special privilege. As Vice-President of Sinn F'in from 1917, he was instrumental in shaping the early Irish government. In 1933 O'Flanagan became President of Sinn F'in, but was to pull away as the party retired into futile bickering, and he was eventually expelled over an arbitrary disagreement.
