They Came From Transylvania Community College

Overview

Victor Frankenstein is not doing well. His girlfriend is dead. He hasn't slept in three weeks. The campus security guard who catches him in the lab after midnight has started leaving him coffee. His friends' texts have escalated from concern to something that looks a lot like a formal intervention. Victor has responded to none of them, because Victor has a plan. The plan works. This is the problem. Jenziffer comes back - gold-seamed and luminous and genuinely, recognizably her - but the resurrection tears something open between worlds, and what comes through the gap is Tullamore: a thousand-voiced entity that collects souls the way a fire collects oxygen, growing larger and stranger and more human-shaped with every one it takes. It has plans of its own now. It has learned to make its own doors. Victor has a vampire friend named Joe who gave him blood samples without asking too many questions. He has Jenziffer, who can walk between dimensions but isn't entirely sure what that makes her now. He has Everette, whose texts have the energy of someone who will absolutely show up at your door with snacks and a lecture. He has allies who are, in various states and for various reasons, no longer entirely alive. What he doesn't have is a contingency plan for an ancient interdimensional predator who has just figured out that the hole Victor punched in reality is, if you squint at it right, a feature. Tullamore has centuries of practice. Victor has grief and stubbornness and a girlfriend whose love for him turns out to be, in the most literal possible sense, a force of nature. It might be enough. It might not. The darkness doesn't care either way. They Came from Transylvania Community College is a gothic horror novel about the things we do when we can't let go - and what we become when we're brave enough, or foolish enough, to do the impossible and then deal with whatever follows it home.

Author Information

William Andy Hainline currently lives in New Albany, Indiana with a big old lazy tomcat named Beau, where in his spare time he practices being a supervillain and an English major, and he dabbles in computer science and general science, philosophy, comics, and filmjmaking. He is constantly coming up with new and exciting ways to butcher the English language, but his favorite way to do so is writing novels. He enjoys science-fiction, fantasy, and horror, and is a sucker for grand, romantic musicals. When he isn't plotting to take over the world, he spends most of his free time reading, writing, hanging out with friends, and tinkering with his copy of Unreal Engine. (Which is totally not a euphemism for something else.) Some of his favorite toys include Adobe Photoshop, various I clients, and the best writing program in the world, Scrivener. He is a big fan of Babylon 5, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Fringe, and Doctor Who, and he is active on Facebook.
