Overview

The book presents investigations of the following polymeric materials and composites, derived from them. Chapter 1 presents studies of degradation of aliphatic-aromatic polyimides and poly(alkane imides) in melts, thermal and thermooxidative degradation, and solid-phase oxidation. Chapter 2 discusses high-temperature degradation of aliphatic aromatic polyamides and their thermal oxidation in the solid phase - the aging. Chapter 3 shows results on degradation of polyphenylquinoxalines and co-polyi midophenylquinoxalines. Chapter 4: Polysulfone and polyester-imide degradation in melts and solid-phase oxidation. Chapter 5: Degradation of aromatic co-polyesters derived from n-oxybenzoic, tere- and isophthalic acids, and dioxydiphenyl Chapter 6: General regularities of thermal oxidation of thermoresistant heterochain polymers Chapter 7: Applied stabilization of thermoresistant polymers. Labile structures and additives, polysulfones, polyester-imides, aliphatic-aromatic polyamides and poly(alkane imide) and composites derived from them are discussed. Data on glass-filled composites derived from polyalkyl-imide are shown. The mechanisms of action of transition metal compounds and degradation transformations of heterochain polymers in the presence of stabilizers - phosphorus-containing compounds - are discussed. The book presents many-year and the latest results, mostly obtained by scientists of G.S. Petrov Research Institute of Polymeric Materials (Moscow, Russia) - one of the leading Institutes in this branch, which have not ever been published in international scientific magazines.

Reviews

'This book is the result of an interesting and largely successful effort to integrate the data obtained in Russian laboratories on high-temperature resistant, high performance organic polymers with the results obtained in other countries on the same or analogous systems. (...) the attempt to integrate Russian research with 'western' science has been largely successful. Anyone, anywhere who has an interest in thermally resistant, engineering polymers is sure to find much of interest in this book.' D.M. Wiles, Victoria, BC, Canada, Polymer News, 2005.
