Overview

Do you know how to lead a project that someone else started? You know that taking over an existing project is not the same as starting from scratch. Despite a recent global survey revealing that 67% of projects finish with a different Project Manager than they started with, almost all Project Management methodologies and books assume a fresh project start. The reality is that few PMs have full control over the triple constraints (scope/quality, budget, and schedule) when joining an existing project team. Are you frustrated by PM books that assume that the PM has a blank canvas when most of the time you are taking over projects that have already started? Then this book is for you! There's a New Sheriff in Town provides a proven road map to successfully complete projects, regardless of their current status. Based on over 40 years of PM experience in multiple industries, with both local and global teams, this practical guide provides you with a step-by-step path to success. Tips, checklists, and sample templates will speed your progress. This book is a must-have for any PM taking over a project, regardless of your experience level. There's a New Sheriff in Town will help you lead your team to a successful project conclusion, regardless of the industry or delivery methodology involved. Key benefits from following the processes and steps in this book include: Having a well-structured plan for assuming leadership of an ongoing project Rapidly determining the true status of an existing project Identifying if there are any key issues and challenges Utilizing leverage points to turn around troubled projects and teams Tactics to keep the project team focused and committed despite changing project dynamics Leading the project team to successful outcomes Get this book to succeed with your projects!

"EDITORIAL REVIEWS: -A straight-talking and all-encompassing guide to assuming control of works in progress. Kirkus Reviews (starred review) -If you are about to take over a project, it pays to have this book on your bedside table! International Project Management Association, Netherlands (IPMA-NL) Wish I had this sooner Where was this book for the first 20 years of my career? While reading about project management may not be exciting to some, if you've lived in a world of taking over projects midway, fixing other's mistakes, or had this cause an overwhelming workload, this book is incredibly helpful to help you find success! --Amazon Reader This is a ""Must Have"" for any Project Manager -Amazon Reader While most experienced PMs have a full toolkit, few have the tools laid out and well-crafted as what is presented in this booth. This is a welcome addition to any working project manager's bookshelf. --DLapham I wish I had this book in the early years of my professional career. It would have saved me many hard lessons learned. At the price, easy read, and extent of its coverage, it should be a no-brainer for any PM or potential PM to buy this book. --JSulz An intelligent, extremely knowledgeable roadmap for the common problem of needing a change in PMs mid-project. Amazing how often that is necessary. Should be required reading. -Amazon Reader A comprehensive book on project management If you're taking over a project, this book will teach you how to be an effective ""new sheriff in town"". It provides you with a systematic approach to taking over a project, from assessing the project, coming up with a plan, talking with project team members, and more. It's an incredibly comprehensive guide. Is a great book for project managers who are looking to excel in their careers. --JDubster A great and practical guide to a common and underappreciated project management challenge All the project management books I've ever seen assume that a PM will be coming into a project with a fresh slate; you're able to discuss requirements with your stakeholders, have time to do effort estimates and build the team, forecast a realistic completion date and budget, and build your own plans and models to make that happen... This book answers the question, what can you do if none of that is true? What if you're inheriting a project that's six months down the line, has a set completion date, and not nearly the level of resource or executive commitment to make that happen?"
