Jae-Min Lee wurde in Taegu (Südkorea) geboren. Von 1990 bis 1997 studierte er Germanistik und Theaterwissenschaft an der Universität Dongguk in Südkorea, von 1997 bis 1999 Germanistik an der Graduate School der Universität Dongguk. Ab 1999 studierte er Neuere Deutsche Literaturwissenschaft und Theaterwissenschaft an der Fakultät für Philologie der Universität Bochum. 2011 erfolgte dort die Promotion im Fach Theaterwissenschaft.
