-- 2nd Edition review: It offers a succinct approach to basic study of philosophy, concept and theory development as related to nursing. It then provides a range of theories from a variety of sciences. It provides a framework in which to view nursing theorists and theories and does a nice job of presenting key components of these theories in a standardized format. -- 2nd Edition review: It is well organized and the topic areas are thorough. The authors clearly and succinctly present information relevant to the topics at hand. The use of subheadings was particularly helpful in guiding the flow of content. The tables provided were also very helpful in highlighting key concepts and in the provision of definitions. I thought the book provided extremely helpful resources after each chapter, such as internet site addresses directly relevant to the content discussed. Overall, every aspect of this book, content and format, was very good. -- 2nd Edition review There's a good foundational discussion in Chap. 1.
