After serving in the South Pacific during WWII, he married his high school sweetheart. His dedication to the land led him to a PhD in Rangeland Management and service as Professor and director of the Rangeland Recourses Program at Oregon State University, as a internationally recognized Rangeland and Agriculture Consultant and as President of the Society for Range Management.
