Author Information

Jo Ellen Oliver won a college scholarship for her essay, ""Texas City, April 16, 1947,"" sparking her interest in writing. She graduated in English edu-cation from the University of Texas and earned two masters' degrees from Auburn University and the University of Georgia in reading educa-tion and counseling. She also earned a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. She has had articles in professional journals and has published two books under the pen name of Jillian Wright: The Man Under the Bridge, about homeless people, and Fox Hollow, a mystery romance. This collection of autobiographical stories is intended to portray changes of attitude over the last century about family, race, and sex. Oliver was married to Dr. John E. Oliver, a retired professor, and veterinary neurol-ogist. They had three children and ten grandchildren. The oldest son, Michael G. Oliver, was also a writer, who had served as an editor or re-porter for three newspapers. He lived in Birmingham, AL, and had re-tired from, AL. due to his diagnosis of the fatal disease, Lewy Body de-mentia. He continued to write his blog, Myvinyllcountdown.com and Living with Lewy Body Disease until his passing in 2024. He had raised thousands of dollars for Lewy Body research and hoped his writing would educate the public about the disease. He said writing was a good therapy.
