His training was in music at the University of Washington after which he did some private teaching and also discovered the poetry scene in San Francisco. He is the author of a previous book published by Regent Press To-and-From on the Day-for-Night Coast under the name of Stephen Francis Cosgrove. His love affair with the Burning Man Arts Festival began in 1996 and continues. He lives in Palo Alto, California with his partner Loie Johnson.
