OverviewSalvian, a monk and priest of fifth-century Gaul, is best known for his treatise De gubernatione Dei, which excoriates the corruption among the aristocracy and the vices infecting all social classes, and which expresses the writer's faith in divine providence despite the pervasiveness of the evils that he observes.
