Overview

Click Mort takes mundane ceramic figures and refigures them as pop-culture 'chimeras.' The result is kitsch resurrected in a familiar yet somewhat less cosy form. His 'recapitated' figures have found their way into several collections of post-pop art exhibitions in the US, and attracted a healthy and ever growing group of collectors who recognize the skill and vision used to create this 'pop-sculpture.'

Reviews

As a gallery director, I'm fortunate to discover many artists at the start of their careers and have an opportunity to collect their work before it skyrockets in price. Still, I usually limit myself to 2 or 3 pieces from my favorite artists. That said, I have 11 Click Mort figurines. Matt Kennedy

Click Mort creates recapitated figures using the parts of different, pre-existing ceramic figurines to create quirky new hybrid statues. Often imbued with narrative humor, the seamless figures also hold a sense of nostalgia as most of the figures source parts from past eras. -- Hi-Fructose Magazine

Click Mort creates I hope you enjoy what you see in this book. Please look closely at the photos. If you do, they will make you laugh. If you look closer, they will make you feel. And if you look closer still, they will break your heart. -- James Gunn, Director, Guardians of the Galaxy

Author Information

Mr. Mort's formal training consists of a single high school ceramics class, where the tendency of his pieces to explode when fired eventually led to him being banned from the kiln. He has since opted to work only with pre-fired materials. Click Mort's unique recombinations of nostalgic pop-sculpture have attracted a healthy and ever growing clientele of in-the-know collectors. A lifetime fascination for oddity is as much an asset as his meticulous craftsmanship, and it's perhaps no surprise to learn that Click served a brief stint playing guitar for The Cramps earlier in his career. James Gunn is a filmmaker. He wrote the reboot of Dawn of the Dead that ushered in the recent zombie craze, produced the fan-favorite web series PG Porn, and directed the cult genre films Slither and Super. His most recent film as director, Guardians of the Galaxy, was the hit film of summer 2014, delighting audiences worldwide. Gunn has been collecting art for over a decade and is specifically the most voracious collector of Click Mort's art.
