He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship for Poetry, the White Pine World of Voices Poetry Award, and teaching grants from the Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry. He gave the keynote address for the Haiku North America Conference in Ottawa, Canada, 2009; and for the Punjabi Haiku Conference, Punjab University, India, 2010.
