The World Stares at Me. And I at Heart.

Overview

Hassan ""Bijan"" Safdari (born February 10, 1960, in Isfahan) is an Iranian poet, writer, and translator whose literary sensibility was shaped during his high-school years under the mentorship of the late Mohammad Hoquqi and through his early connection with the first circle of Jong-e Esfahan. In 1990s, his work began appearing in influential Iranian journals, marking him as a distinctive voice in contemporary Iranian literature. Safdari later moved to the United States, where he studied management, acted in English-language plays in Memphis, and composed his English poetry collection Alone in Memphis. He chose the literary name ""Bijan"" in homage to the poet Bijan Jalali. Safdari's body of work spans several acclaimed poetry collections, notable translations-including works by T.S. Elliot, Garcia Lorca, Octavio Paz's A Draft of Shadows and The Song of Solomon from the Hebrew Bible-and involvement in documentary film production. His oeuvre includes The Wind Is Outside the Window, I Am the Other, I Slept Under Your Umbrella, Kuh-e Soffeh, and his poetic study Death Letter. In addition to his literary pursuits, Safdari has been involved in documentary film production, further demonstrating his interdisciplinary interest in narrative, memory, and cultural transmission. Across poetry, translation, and film, Hassan ""Bijan"" Safdari's oeuvre reveals a consistent commitment to ethical reflection, aesthetic rigor, and the exploration of language as a space where history, exile, and personal vision converge.
