OverviewA review of the literature on research concerning women revealed a lack of studies focusing on black, elderly women. In this book, we present the findings of a groundbreaking study conducted with black, elderly women regarding their knowledge: their perspectives on ageing, work, sexuality and religiosity. This book is intended for anyone interested in the theme of 'education and ageing' with a focus on gender and race. The analyses were inspired by Michel Foucault's work *The Order of Discourse* (2013) and examine these women's discourses in relation to power dynamics: ""With which other discourses do they engage?""; "" With which discourses do they engage in polemics or conflict?""; ""What are the strategies for adhering to dominant discourses and what are the strategies of resistance?""; ""What power relations enabled them to say what was said and in the way it was said?"". And perhaps here lies a possible answer to Foucault's question: ""But what, after all, is so dangerous about people speaking and their discourses proliferating indefinitely? Where, after all, lies the danger?"" (FOUCAULT, 2013, p.8).
