Overview

This title is written by Oxford United Programme Editor Martin Brodetsky, author of Oxford United: The Complete Record . It features details on individuals that have not been previously published. The Who's Who has biographical details for almost every player who has played for the club since it turned professional in 1949, plus information on all the club's managers and many of the other influential individuals who have had an impact on United since its formation as Headington FC in 1893. This includes those players and managers who have become club legends, such as Ron Atkinson, John Aldridge, Jim Smith and Arthur Turner as well as those whose United careers lasted less than 45 minutes, such as Tony Obi, Abdou Sall and Scot Gemmill. In addition the book features passages on people dating from the club founder, Dr Robert Hitchings, to the current chairman Kelvin Thomas. Everyone featured, from the briefest of sparks to the longest-lasting flames, has had a part to play in the ongoing story of this incredible football club, from its lowly beginnings as a village team in the local junior league to its place as one of the foremost professional clubs in the country, and onwards to the present day. Brodetsky has unearthed some fascinating information about many of the individuals featured, a lot of which has not been previously published. Illustrated throughout with contemporary photographs, many in full colour, this volume makes an excellent complement to the Complete History , but also as a stand-alone record that is an essential reference book for all United supporters.
