OverviewThis volume provides material on the history, legends, and landscapes of the White Mountain region of New Hampshire with some brief selections of appropriate poetry drawn primarily from major New England poets. The chapters on exploration and vegetation were written by Prof. Ed. Tuckerman, an authority on the White Mountains. This popular work went through several editions. It is reprinted here from the very attractively illustrated 1871 edition which has a map and over sixty engravings. Thomas Starr King (1824-1864) was a prominent Unitarian clergyman, orator, and author noted for his writings on the natural beauties of the American landscape. A new index to people and places has been added to this edition.
