For nearly 25 of those years, Dr. Hicks has worked as a professor and researcher studying river ice processes in northern Canada, primarily in northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Dr. Hicks has published more than 130 scholarly papers in journals and conference proceedings. In 2008 she was awarded the Camille A. Dagenais Award from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, for outstanding contributions in hydrotechnical engineering. In 2013 she was awarded the Michel Medal by the Canadian Geophysical Union's Committee on River Ice Processes and the Environment, for her outstanding and sustained contributions to the advancement of river ice science and engineering in Canada.
