Purves, PhD (1931-1996, ) was Professor Emeritus of English and Education at the University of Illinois, Professor Emeritus of Education and Humanities at the State University of New York at Albany, and President of The Scribes Inc., a company specializing in editorial and curriculum consulting in English Language Arts. His professional experience included teaching English at the elementary and secondary levels as well as in colleges and universities. Internationally known as a consultant on curriculum, literature instruction, and assessment, Dr. Purves published numerous articles and books in these areas.
