Overview

Father Jonathan Morris has seen firsthand how our day-to-day lives are consumed with anxiety and stress as we focus on our failures and troubles while peace feels unattainable. When he rediscovered the Serenity Prayer, he realized that this little prayer can be a powerful road map for our spiritual journey toward God. As he began to share this prayer with others, he saw that living these simple lines became a source of profound peace and happiness: Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference. Unpacking the prayer phrase by phrase, Father Jonathan shows how we can gain a deeper spiritual understanding by practicing its message. Through powerful personal stories, illuminating historical anecdotes, and biblical passages that show us God's plan for our lives, The Way of Serenity will help us grow closer to God and find serenity, regardless of our circumstances.

Reviews

"For believers, The Way of Serenity provides a roadmap to peace. For non-believers, Father Morris provides a deep incentive to consider the other side.-- ""Bill O'Reilly, Fox News"" ""Father Jonathan Morris explores the richness and depth contained in the seemingly simple Serenity Prayer and helps show how we can begin to discern God's will in our lives--as well as how to cooperate with Him! Profound truths presented in an engaging and down to earth style."" -- ""Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Roman Catholic archbishop of New York"" ""For a conversation about faith with a warm, thoughtful, big-hearted man of God, The Way of Serenity was satisfying."" -- ""Guideposts magazine"" ""For believers, The Way of Serenity provides a road map to peace. For nonbelievers, Father Morris provides a deep incentive to consider the other side."" -- ""Bill O'Reilly, Fox News Channel anchor"" ""In a warm voice, narrator Patrick Lawlor delivers Father Jonathan Morris's examination of the Serenity Prayer as a means of restoration for everyone, not just those who belong to Alcoholic Anonymous. His animated voice and varied pace and tone add to the moving narratives, historical anecdotes, and Bible quotes that Father Morris provides as illustrations. Both author and narrator emphasize the core teaching of the prayer: to accept what can't be changed, to find the courage to change what can be changed, and to know the difference. Lawlor captures the drama of Father Morris's moral dilemma when he learns that his sister plans to marry a lesbian. The spiritual challenge to the devout Morris family and his account of how they resolve the problem illustrate why Father Morris believes the Serenity Prayer is valuable for everyone."" -- ""AudioFile"" ""In this work, chapters are rather loosely tethered to the words of the prayer and the ideas implicit in them, but the broad message is consistent--Morris commends acceptance even without certainties, perspective, and calm. Verdict: Morris's treatment of this very popular prayer reaches well across doctrinal and denominational divides; his book should have wide appeal to individuals, groups, and pastors."" -- ""Library Journal"""
