The Way Love Goes: A Guide to Building a “Beaurtiful” and Everlasting Relationship

Overview

Hip-hop legend “Da Brat” DuPart and her wife Judy DuPart, stars of WEtv’s highly rated reality series Brat Loves Judy, share their journey to the altar and parenthood in this candid relationship guide and marriage memoir. Hip-hop legend Da Brat and beauty entrepreneur Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart’s love story is as heartwarming as it is improbable. As rumors about her sexuality abounded, “Brat” believed she would remain “in the closet” until she took her last breath. But lightning struck when the rapper and the businesswoman met in 2017. Though their chemistry was instant and undeniable, the two went their separate ways. Reconnecting at the Essence Festival a few years later, Da Brat made the bold decision to publicly come out and confirmed their relationship in March 2020. Their love blossoming into their own successful reality show Brat Loves Judy, and two years later their marriage. Within a few months of sharing vows, the couple announced that Da Brat was pregnant, and on July 6, 2023, the pair welcomed a baby boy named True Legend Harris-Dupart. Part memoir and part relationship guide, The Way Love Goes, is laugh-out-loud funny and filled with warmth and love—just like its authors. Told in Da Brat’s signature Chicago tone, and Judy’s distinctive New Orleans patois, they each take turns detailing common relationship challenges, from sharing successful and meaningful communication to creating balance to coping with jealousy—and how they conquered them.

Reviews

""[An] impressive and reflective treat for diehard fans of Da Brat and Judy. The authors don’t mince words as they escort readers through their shared lives and how their shared “golden rules” developed as guideposts. The book stresses the importance of establishing boundaries, responsibility, accountability, faith, honesty and communication, which, they admit, was initially difficult as both women had different styles of personal expression (and text response times). Filled with takeaways and wise, self-reflective pearls, the book’s strength is in its balance in allowing both women to be frank and transparent in sharing their perspective on how the relationship emerged, grew, and continues to evolve, including the birth of a son in 2023….It’s advice that continues to be imperative to the success of the authors’ relationship with each other."" — Kirkus Reviews ""It’s dope watching my little sister Brat's life journey. I’m so proud of her. She and Judy are so supportive of each other, and they keep life fresh and exciting."" — Jermaine Dupri ""I am so excited for this book to be in the world. The love that Judy and Brat express to the world is truly aspirational and beautiful. I have always admired Da Brat and all of her accomplishments…but knowing her journey inside and outside the closet has always made me feel for her. Seeing her shine with another light (Judy) brings me joy. This book will educate and share wonderful tips for whatever kind of relationship you are in. Love y’all!"" — Raven-Symoné ""The journey of Brat and Judy has been nothing but inspirational. I remember going to work every single morning with my good friend Brat and she’s always had a light and a joy about her, but I remember one day when something changed, something felt a bit happier and more joyous in her smile. That something was the best addition to her life. The way she loves Judy and the way that Judy loves her was so palpable. I could not help but to smile as a friend. Their love story gives me hope and is an inspiration to living authentically in letting love lead the way. I will forever be rooting for the union and The Beauty of Brat and Judy."" — Eva Marcille ""The way Da Brat writes about Judy makes the words jump off the page and into your heart. I never wanted to put this book down."" — Porsha Williams, actress and The Real Housewives of Atlanta and The Traitors star ""Anybody who knows me knows I love, love. And these two never miss. They are constantly sharing their love for one another and this book is no different. Giving insight on how to grow together and love each other while dealing with the random but real scenarios life throws your way. This is a page turner you don’t want to miss."" — Kyla Pratt of The Proud Family series and Dr. Doolittle film
