Leading in healthcare is a daunting task reserved for those who are capable of juggling tasks and grasping ideas quickly and effectively. The skillsets of health care leaders require one to be diplomatic, knowledgeable, charismatic, extremely intelligent, sensitive, caring, and emotional but in control of those emotions and all of these skill sets are on display before you get your first cup of coffee to start your day. This is why healthcare systems and processes must be designed in such a way to establish a foundation that supports our healthcare teams and elevates them to be successful. To remove the guess work, to make care delivery easy and simplified during the stressful moments when lives are on the line. As a clinician myself, I understand how poorly designed systems of care delivery and misaligned processes and barriers can impact patient care and outcomes. Much like the cells in our body come together in a state of symbiosis to create homeostasis, we as leaders owe it to our teams to know how to make their jobs as simple as possible and ensure quality care delivery is achievable by all of those we serve. This book outlines a four step methodology developed over years of experience as a clinician and as a clinical and administrative leader. Afterall, the role of leaders in my opinion is to provide the tools and resources our teams need to be successful so they can achieve the greatness our patients, our communities and we as leaders expect and appreciate.
