Reviews

This is the story of Katy, who lives with her father and their dog by the sea. When Mary comes into their lives, along with her son Sean, Katy is rather put out. The visitors change the routine, disrupt the household's habits and leave Katy feeling that she has lost her closeness to her father. Eventually, however, she comes to see that Mary and Sean may also add something to her life. This is a sensitive exploration of how it feels to a child when adults decide to merge family units. It is suitable for a child to read either with an adult, or alone, since although the idea is sophisticated, the vocabulary is not. (Kirkus UK)
