Lawrence (1885-1930) was an English novelist, poet, travel writer, and essayist. Lawrence was born and grew up in the mining village of Eastwood, in the English East Midlands, where many of his novels and stories are set. Later in life he travelled the world with his wife and muse, Frieda, producing work set in Italy, Australia, Mexico, and the United States. Persecuted and misrepresented during his lifetime for his frank and open portrayals of sexuality, Lawrence is now a major figure in early twentieth-century English literature. Patrick Barker is a British narrator who specializes in early twentieth-century English literature, especially the work of D. H. Lawrence. Under the name Phil Benson, he has recorded a wide variety of literary authors in the public domain, including multiple works written and produced in Lancashire and the Lake District.
