The Viper: Earthforce Saga

Overview

Returning from the Valhalla rescue mission, Karpov organizes the combined Earthforce Fleet to hunt and engage the Fendi before they can build many more of their new ship designs. He and Fedorov also define Exclusion Zones to keep commercial ships out of the Startides, but one ship, a Privateer, has already been swept off by the Beta Startide behind Fomalhaut. Destroyer Sedna is posted at Sauron's Eye to set up an Exclusion Zone when a ship suddenly emerges from the Startide, and then quickly Pulse Jumps into Colonial Freespace. It is CSS Viper, returning from a journey as wild as that taken by Apollo to the Eagle Nebula. This ship, a small cutter class Privateer, now exerts a profound influence on the course of events, because on its return trip, it was being pursued. Fedorov declares its Captain, Crew and the ship itself to be ""Free Radicals."" When more unwelcome visitors emerge from that same Startide, and others near Polyarnny Rift, a series of skirmishes are fought against these unknown alien forces. Already fighting one war against the Fendi, and with the Shadows barely neutral, Karpov and Fedorov face a new Imperial enemy coming at them from the far off regions of the Centaurid Constellation and the Coalsack. The Viper has led a dangerous new enemy to the budding colonies reaching out from the Earth, and they will make a startling claim.
