Exquisite pen and ink watercolor drawings of thirty-two villas built by Andrea Palladio, one of the most influential architects of the Renaissance. Each drawing provides a detailed and faithful record of the present state of these architectural masterpieces, and captures the timeless beauty of Palladian architecture. Where possible, Giaconi's watercolors and preparatory sketches are reproduced side by side with the woodcut engravings of the villas as they were published in Palladio's own treatise, The Four Books of Architecture. Thus, the reader is able to compare the original designs with the actual buildings and their present state of conservation.

Giovanni Giaconi studied architectural restoration in Vicenza, Italy. He lives in Italy and New York, where he has worked restoring historic buildings. His work has been exhibited in numerous villas, including Palladio's own Villa Thiene, as well as in Rome, New York, and Stockholm.
