Overview

The story is based on Victorian true crime and is set in London in 1834. James Ashley was brought up in Whitechapel London and had been surrounded by poverty all his life. Nevertheless, he took pride in the fact that he was a Cockney born within the sound of Bow Bells Church. He was as adept at stealing as his father was and had been a willing student in that respect. James resolved that he would never be caught by the Police or end up in Newgate Prison like his father had. One morning James woke up and decided to set out for Chiswick to make his fortune.
