He is a 1996 graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in biological sciences. In 2002, Steve obtained a Career Technical Education teaching credential. Steve began his veterinary career in 1988 as a veterinary assistant in a small animal and wildlife veterinary hospital in Ramona, California. In 1996, Steve began working for the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park as a bird keeper. Four years later, he began working as an RVT at the San Diego Zoo's Jennings Veterinary Hospital. During his 16 year stent at the zoo hospital, Steve participated in animal related in situ projects in San Clemente, Uganda and Baja California. As a Career Technical Educator, Steve began teaching a veterinary assisting class for the Regional Occupational Program in San Diego. He also taught the exotics program for aspiring RVT's at Pima Career College. Steve has written and contributed to several veterinary magazines and articles during his career. He has written and published two books on the subject of companion and exotic animal medicine, supportive care and husbandry. Steve currently works for the animal care program at the University of California, San Diego.
