OverviewThe UNTIDIES - Bonding a Nation - is the story of thousands of young men who participated in this highly influential program to Canadian Society from 1943 to 1968. The first section of the book contains several anecdotes giving the reader an insight into the program including the author's personal story, milestones and statistics, and an outline of the training program itself. The second section deals with several of the hundreds of success stories featuring biographies of successful UNTDs in both civilian and military life. This section also details the opportunities missed by the Canadian Government to take advantage of the training given to these select individuals. Section three is a brief historical overview of the Canadian Navy 1907 to 1945 with emphasis on personnel and ships. The fourth section deals with the factors affecting Canada and Naval Policy following 1945 - Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United Nations, NATO, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Iron Curtain, the Berlin Airlift, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Berlin Wall. In the appendix the author provides an overall comparison of the fleet in 1951, 1963 and 2002.
