The Unself-Help Book: How to Get Out of Your Own Way and Start Being Happy

Overview

This book begins where self-help ends. It's an account of one man's struggle to overcome adversity, outlining his arduous but astonishing transformation and the steps he took to find a happier, more peaceful life. Whether we are affected by alcoholism, betrayal, divorce, depression, the loss of a loved one, or other hardships, this book provides a more profound prescription than the surface-level solutions often found in self-help books. The Unself-Help Book: How to Get Out of Your Own Way and Start Being Happy is a comprehensive blend of Western and Eastern thought, science and spirituality, and the practical. It dives into the neurosciences, psychology, Yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, meditation, metaphysics, and the depths of what it is to be human. It explores the reasons why many of us are unhappy, unearthing the seemingly innocuous habits of thought and behavior that can cause stress, fear, and anxiety.

Reviews

""In a world obsessed with self, this book is a gentle but powerful reminder that healing begins when we let go of 'me' and begin to look outward. The Unself-Help Book teaches that compassion, kindness, and truly seeing others aren't just virtues-they are tools for recovery and healing."" -Maureen Regan is the co-author of A Few Good Eggs and The Beauty BUYble ""Carl T. Vreeland uses his powerful story to create a map for anyone seeking to make positive changes in their life, even when those changes feel impossible today. While every path will look different, this honest and practical book serves as a clear compass for moving forward."" -Amanda Lehrer Nash, LCSW ""In this raw, honest, and expertly researched book, Carl T. Vreeland brings together a no-holds-barred recounting of his riveting personal journey to overcome lifelong addictions and self-sabotaging behaviors. The result is a game changer for the reader. The writing is sharp, accessible, and compelling. The Unself-Help Book will stay with readers long after they have finished reading."" -Suzanne Weyn, author of Surviving South Street: Beaten, and The Bar Code Tattoo ""Carl T. Vreeland candidly shares his struggles with addictions, relationships, anger, and more, during which he learned to abandon 'self-help' and embrace the 'unself' work. Synthesizing what he learned from the likes of Eckhart Tolle, Alan Watts, and his beloved sponsor, he shows us how to find lasting change and peace."" -Patrick Preblick, communications specialist
