Overview

The Unsaid Words is a small collection of poems about life with chronic pain. Themes of despair, struggle, and, ultimately, hope, run through the book. The poems encourage readers to acknowledge the emotional and mental struggles that accompany chronic physical pain. The book is a space to mourn these effects on one's life, as well as a message of solidarity and hope for those who suffer.

Reviews

The Unsaid Words is beautifully written with understatement, honesty, and grace. By challenging us to inhabit the speaker's body, [in the struggle with pain and illness] these poems offer us the hope of finding words for the unspoken within ourselves. --Ann Hostetler, author of Safehold In The Unsaid Words, I find a marvelous distillation of wisdom that a caring soul procured from a life with inexplicable chronic pain. These poems call for me to practice presence, like Oliver Dog, and be a truer companion to those who are suffering than any mouthful of words. --Pastor Caleb Kragt The Unsaid Words is a heartfelt testimony to living with chronic pain. The honesty and truth found in Filbrun's poignant poems are a needed voice, not just for those who suffer from chronic struggle, but also for the ones who care for them. --Norman Spicher Waggy, M.D., and Carol Spicher Waggy, MDiv, MSW
