Overview

An action-packed adventure in American Colonial history Tilly, Molly, and Tom explore the site of Fort Cumberland. But none of the plaques and monuments record women! Tom declares that there were no important women in America's colonial wars. The girls don't agree, and suddenly all three are whisked away to participate in the life of Charlotte Browne, the first woman ever commissioned into the British army. General Braddock was called from England to the colonies to lead troops against the French from Fort Cumberland. Mistress Browne left her tiny children in London and sailed to the colonies with the General's army. Charlotte was commissioned to create the Fort Cumberland hospital. Braddock's army marched from the fort to fight the French. The bloody rout of Braddock's army is one of the best-known events in what came to be called the ""French and Indian War"".By the end of the book, Tom agrees that there are indeed important women in Colonial history!
