Larisa Mikhailovna Somova is a medical doctor, Professor, and Chief Researcher of the Somov Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Russia. Her research has covered the histopathology of encephalitis caused by the Powassan virus, isolated in 1972 in Russia; modern interpretations of tick-borne encephalitis pathology in terms of immunopathology; the pathogenesis and morphogenesis of Far Eastern scarlet-like fever; and ultrastructural aspects of variability and adaptation of pathogenic bacteria to different habitat conditions. She is the author of around 250 papers and eight books on the problem of infectious diseases, as well as the ultrastructure of pathogens of bacterial and viral infections.
