The Ultimate U.S. School Shooting Reference Guide: Volume 1: 1990-1999

Overview

Gun violence in schools has left a profound impact on many U.S. communities, driving activism among parents and survivors. Perhaps your own community has also been affected by school gun violence. The Ultimate U.S. School Shooting Reference Guide, Volumes 1-3 goes beyond identifying mass shootings and active shooter incident, documenting every known incident of gun violence on or directed toward school properties in the U.S. from 1990 to 2019. This extensive documentation uncovers patterns of motivation and behavior that could benefit your community. Over the past three decades, gun violence incidents on U.S. school properties have nearly quintupled. This reference guide, a companion piece to ""A Safe Place: How to Prevent the Next School Shooting"" by librarian and U.S. Air Force veteran Luis D. Aponte, meticulously examines 1,204 U.S. school shootings resulting in at least one injury or fatality. Unlike reports from the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Department of Education, and the U.S. Government Accountability Office, The Ultimate U.S. School Shooting Reference Guide, Volumes 1-3 expands the definitions of school shootings to include: - Accidental shootings - Suicides - Drive-by shootings - Stray bullets - Gun violence at school-sponsored athletic events - Gun violence at other school-sponsored extracurricular events, such as homecoming dances and graduation ceremonies The book also addresses incidents occurring before and after traditional school hours when students and staff are still present. This expanded definition provides a more comprehensive view of the current gun violence crisis facing American schools. This revealing book series aims to contribute to your understanding of school gun violence by identifying 22 facts and patterns in each incident, using only credible public resources. The Ultimate U.S. School Shooting Reference Guide, Volumes 1-3 is an essential resource for any serious student of criminal justice and gun violence in America. *50% percent of all profits will be donated to the nonprofit organizations, ""Make Our Schools Safe"" and ""Stand for the Silent."" *Make sure to get the companion piece, A Safe Place: How to Prevent the Next School Shooting by Luis D. Aponte, for further exploration of this critical issue.

Author Information

Luis D. Aponte is a librarian, U.S. Air Force veteran, and the author of four books and eBooks on school shootings: A Safe Place: How to Prevent the Next School Shooting and The Ultimate U.S. School Shooting Reference Guide, Volumes 1-3. His work has been published in Virginia's Mt. Vernon Gazette and Fairfax Connection newspapers and the peer-reviewed EDUCATION journal. Luis resides in Virginia, where he enjoys ""forest bathing"" in national parks with his wife, making films, and spoiling their adopted orange tabby cat, Ellie. In 1992-1993, Luis attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, but dropped out during his junior year due to the threat of gun violence on campus. Approximately 25 years later, the same school experienced one of the worst school shootings in U.S. history. Since then, Luis has dedicated his research skills as a librarian to finding patterns in 1,204 U.S. school shooting incidents over 30 years, aiming to help save children's lives. Originally from Savannah, Georgia, Luis earned his master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida, his bachelor's degree in Communications - Film & Video from Florida Atlantic University, and his associate's degree in Computer Science from Broward College in Florida, all with honors. He was also a member and the historian for his local chapters of the Golden Key International Honour Society and Phi Theta Kappa International College Honor Society. Luis hopes his books on school shootings will help bring communities together to save lives. Children and educators deserve to feel safe in schools without the threat of gun violence.
