OverviewThe book relates the true stories of four individuals and their plights before, during and after the Second World War and demonstrates the importance of the services of the Red Cross Movement. They are two British Army Prisoners of War who escaped to Vienna dressed as man and wife, a Czechoslovakian female refugee who escaped the Russian invasion after the War, and an Anglo-Italian abandoned male child who spent his early years in Italy and his War years in a Roman Catholic orphanage in England. The Prologue relates the tragic personal history of the Founder of the International Red Cross and Originator of the Geneva Conventions whose name is unknown to many - Henry Dunant. He was the first Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1901 and his philanthropy and vision formed the foundations of modern International Humanitarian Law.
