His main interest is in the instrumental music of Mozart. He is a frequent speaker at musicology conferences in the UK and internationally and a Council Member of the Royal Musical Association. He is General Editor of a new series of monographs on William Byrd, and editor of several volumes of the series Musica Britannica and Corpus of Early Keyboard Music.
