Her passion for early childhood literacy was prompted by the lack of books in her own childhood and it was only in her early professional career that she discovered the pleasure and richness of reading books.Namibia is a very unequal society, and Hilma always had the desire to improve the lives of the less fortunate. She contributed to the establishment of the not-for-profit organisation Development Workshop Namibia (DWN), which today is one of Namibia's most dynamic NGOs with a focus on improving the lives of people living in informal settlements. In 2019, Hilma initiated an Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme for DWN called 'Play for All'. She started by distributing boxes filled with donated children's books to kindergartens in informal settlements and spending time reading to the children.Inspired by these interactions and her own childhood story, Hilma started writing children's books which were published by Development Workshop Namibia. More than 50,000 copies of these books have been distributed to kindergartens and children from underprivileged communities.Hilma is currently living in Switzerland with her husband and son. She continues to write for social projects in Namibia but also privately. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
