The Traveler Who Drank an Oasis

Overview

For the poet, the true traveler is not the one who has walked the world, but the one who has walked far enough to hear their own racing heartbeat. The true traveler does not seek to quench the thirst from outside, but already has an oasis within. For the poet, this state of the traveler comes from experiencing the stories of happiness and pain and continuing walking even if it is a lonely walk. In such walks, what stays are the thoughts, which come as poems to the poet. The poems reflect the world as seen from the eyes of a wanderer who is following the directions of their heart. The poet relies heavily on personification of human emotions such as through a river flow or sometimes through the voices of the moon, sky, or a bird to bring out a desire for oneness in life. The poet's journey has polished their rusted heart and now their heartbeat, growing louder with every moment, helps them to communicate thoughts and seek resonance with the heartbeat in others. The poems invite the readers to plunge into this oasis and watch the sunrise together.

Reviews

""Kartikey Grover is like a blossoming flower, following in his scientist father's footsteps as an articulate writer. I thoroughly enjoyed his previous book, Breath of a Wandering City Leaf, and I am happy to share his taste, his thoughts, his attractive but simple and appropriate use of words. Here in this book, The Traveler Who Drank an Oasis, I find each poem is unique like a pearl, and Grover is the thread to weave them into a necklace. I wish him great success."" --Saumitra Dey, consultant, Government of India ""Kartikey Grover writes skillfully with deep imagination: envisioning each hair on one's head as a wish, comparing words to drops of water. He sees his poems as friends trying to speak to him. He is a vagabond quenching his thirst in an oasis of words."" --Pramod Kumar Jain, former deputy general manager, Punjab National Bank ""Profound. This collection portrays personified emotions and illuminates the beauty of the 'everyday'. Kartikey masterfully explores the mundane and the binaries of existence with rare depth. He navigates the reader through subjective experiences of time and space. In this context, these poems reveal the perennial moments of fleeting happiness in one's own life."" --Vaibhav Arora, supervising associate, Ernst and Young ""Kartikey Grover's collection of poems, The Traveler Who Drank an Oasis, is a simple poetic ode to poetry itself. Through imagery, nature and feelings he takes us on a journey into his inner world. Sharing his thoughts and emotions, through a medley of words, the poet truly has drunk an oasis. A delightful read."" --Sharmistha Barthakur, principal scientist, ICAR-National Institute for Plant Biotechnology, New Delhi, India
