OverviewExcerpt from The Transactions of the East Riding Antiquarian Society, Vol. 12: For the Year Ending October, 1904 The earliest remains Of domestic architecture here are to be found in the building to the west of the present house. This building has an undercroft covered with a ribbed vault springing from cylindrical piers with volute capitals. The character of the details points to a date Of c. 1170, and the building of which this undercroft forms part was probably the work of Roger de Stuteville. Under the roof of the same building are some fragments of 15th century woodwork which probably date from the time of Sir Walter Griffith, who died in 1481.
