""Stay on the tracks, it's the only safe place left."" Mavis is on her own. After her parents' disappearance, she wanders the railroad systems of the US trying to stay alive. Cities are unsafe, small towns are unpredictable, and people can't be trusted. But humans aren't the only beings to avoid. Morphos, aliens that came from galaxies away, are slowly consuming all sentient life. It's a battle to see which race will come out on top. As winter begins to set in, Mavis heads west in search of a quiet area to wait out the coming months. But the path she's taken countless times has changed. More dangers await her, and she must face them on her own. Hiding from morphos and her own kind, it's up to her to see if she can survive.
