A Hidden Gem guide to Surgical Tourism. As my research led me deeper into the depths of the subculture and of thoracic surgery specialty, I realized that the stories of Bogota's thoracic surgeons needed to be told, separate and distinct from the distractions of a larger book. This is not simply a directory of thoracic surgeons, but a glimpse into their lives from a sociological perspective. I have included information collected as part of the larger effort because surgery, and the role of thoracic surgeon is an intrinsic part of who they are.

K. Eckland, ACNP-BC, MSN, RN is an acute care nurse practitioner specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. She recently spent several months infiltrating the operating rooms of Bogota, Colombia. These experiences have not only shaped and changed her own perspectives but have helped to transform the lives of her patients. She currently makes her home in southern Virginia. This is her third book.
