OverviewThe book aims to examine the historical dramaturgy of contemporary Portuguese playwright Jaime Gralheiro. To this end, it presents theoretical concepts inherent to the Portuguese psyche, such as history, memory, and identity, with the aim of verifying how these issues echo in Gralheiro's worldview. Next, the author's aforementioned work is analysed from the perspective of intertextuality, which focuses on Portuguese historical facts and/or characters reinterpreted in their contemporaneity, inscribed in Salazarism, but also in the years following the Carnation Revolution. Through this journey, the aim is, ultimately, to point out that Gralheirian dramaturgy establishes relationships with the memory of the past, without forgetting to project it into the future.
