The tervueren

Overview

Tervuren is a city located in the south of Brussels. Few people know that the Duke of Tervueren isn't only the head of the Tervueren breed, but of the Tervuren breed as well. The real origin of the Tervuren is not common knowledge. I learned this information from a very competent Belgian judge during a contest in which I presented my male Tervueren, Loomis de Condivicnum. I checked this information and my research showed that Mr. Raoul Willoc of the Royal Berger club and Mr. Verbank of the Royal Tervueren club had confirmed this origin. It is difficult to obtain the Tervuren's tawny color, with the grey gradations. To strengthen the mahogany color, which is the specific sign of high quality Tervurens, the royal society Saint Hubert accepted the mating between long black fur and short tawny fur. Only educated and competent judges know the origins of this breed. The breeding of Mr. Rose and Mr. Danhieux are the origin of the Tervuren. In fact, the first Tervurens came from the mating of the Duke of Tervueren with Miss, a short fur tawny colored female from Danhieux's breed. From the resulting puppies, one long fur tawny colored male was selected and named Milsart. Today, we can confirm that Milsart has genetic resemblance with Miss (short fur tawny color) and from the Duke of Tervueren (long fur black color). The Duke of Tervueren came from Petite (long fur black color) and Picard of Uccle (long fur black color), and Miss came from Tom (short fur tawny color) and Poes (short fur tawny color). He can be a faithful friend, a great playmate and an admirable professional and athlete. Always on guard, attentive, tireless, balanced, sensitive, he gets easily attached to his family. His obedience is immediate. At home, he will be a pleasant companion and an excellent guard, but like all Belgian shepherds, he will need activity.
