Her pioneering determination meant she was able to create for herself a life in storytelling, often to large gatherings. For decades her collections of stories sold in large numbers in the UK and overseas. Her beautiful prose and ability to tell a story in carefully unfolding steps, makes them perfect for young children. Many of her books were illustrated by the brilliant Nina Brisley. Nina Brisley (1898-1978) had few equals as a children's illustrator. She studied at Hastings and Lambeth schools of art. Her charming style and beautiful pallette made her one of Britain's most successful illustrators.
