OverviewMedieval Japan was no stranger to clan wars during the Heian Period, but in the Spring of 1180 it all came to a head when a second born prince became unhappy about his place in the line of succession and sought help from the Minamoto Clan. While armies began to raise along the Uji River, the rival Taira Clan aimed to put an end to the might of the Minamotos. The war to follow would call upon some of the fiercest samurai of the time, both men, and women. Tomoe Gozen was a female warrior, an onna-musha, known as much for her deadly skills in combat as she was for her intense familial loyalty to Minamoto Yoshinaka. However, Minamoto Yoshinaka was not the head of the clan, nor the leader of their forces. He was a younger cousin and bitter opponent to Minamoto Yoritomo, the true head of the powerful clan. While the Taira attempted to play on this division of power in the Minamoto Clan, everyone was eager to gain the sword of Tomoe for their cause. But she was not interested in being bought or sold, and no man could convince her otherwise. When tensions came to a head, would Tomoe live to tell her tale?
