OverviewThe Tail of Max the Mindless Dog, A Children's Book on Mindfulness is a perfect book for children who have habits that interfere with their ability to live happy and healthy lives. Due to no fault of his own, Max's tail was frequently injured. Believing his tail to be the source of his pain, he set out on a quest to catch his tail and tie it a knot. This decision resulted in Max developing a habit of running in circles; he missed out on all the fun others were experiencing. It was only when his friend, Ross, introduced him to Mindfulness that Max replaced his harmful habit with positive, more productive ones. When Max became an older dog, he saw a puppy chasing his tail, remembering the days he did the same, Max shares the words he learned from Ross with him and the puppy learns Mindfulness. Max teaches children how to apply the belly breath, count of ten, and words of affirmation. It shows them how to make positive choices concerning behavior rather than doing ""what they have always done."" The poem Max quotes allow parents and children to replace the words ""chase my tail"" with other words that represent the child's area of concern. Every now and then we create a class specifically for children to remember the importance of their breathing techniques. This book was an amazing resource. The pictures were big. The story line was appropriate for children of elementary age. The children were so attentive as I turned each page. They even read along at the parts that were repetitive. I give this book five stars!! Great job!! A Delightful Story - 5 Stars A delightful story of Max, a dog who absent mindlessly chased his tail. He didn't know why he did it! It just happened! Sometimes kids also do things without thinking too, and soon it becomes a bad habit. Max will help them be more aware of what they're doing. He's adorable and funny but oh, so mindless! Nice introduction to mindfulness for young kids This book is a good guide for kids who want to examine and change mindless habits like nail-biting or tapping. It also has an element of self-advocacy and helping others, which is a great character education. Excellent book for children and parents Max is a wonderful book that teaches the importance of helping another friend when you see that friend is need of help. Max had a problem and didn't know why he did it, but it just became of part of his life all day long, and he could not have fun doing anything. But one friend suggested for him to try something in place of that habit instead to help him and every time he started to do what was normal for him he tried what his friend suggested, and Max became a different dog, he was able to play with his friends and enjoy life. This is a wonderful, well-written book. It is for children, but it can help the parents that are reading it to their children.
