OverviewThis book concerns one aspect of the transition from the middle to the upper Palaeolithic in Europe about 40,000 years ago when Neanderthal man was succeded by anatomically modern man. It relates to the Szeletian, named after the cave of Szeletia in Hungary, an archaelogical entity characteristic of that period in Central Europe. The author reaches the conclusion that the Szeletian was the creation of Neanderthal man and that together with its creator it was replaced by the Aurignacian and by anatomically modern man. An extensive database is provided in this volume which also contains 50 plates or original drawings and 20 photographs of the major sites.
